Mary Eldeane Mabrey Obituary

Mary Eldeane Mabrey, daughter of James R. and Elva (Perdue) Byers, was born July 6, 1938 in Alpha, Kentucky. She departed this life Monday, January 16, 2023 at Lake Regional Hospital, at the age of eighty-four years, six months, and ten days.

On October 1, 1965, Mary was united in marriage to James Robert Mabrey and together they shared thirty-five years until James’ passing in August of 2000.

Mary was also preceded in death by her parents; and a life-long friend, Jennie Schmidt.

She is survived by her niece, Stephanie Hamner and husband Michael Horrighs; her best friend Enid Woods; and a long-time friend, Russ Schmidt; as well as host of many life-long friends.

Mary grew up in Kentucky and graduated from Wayne County High School in the class of 1956. She attended Eastern Kentucky University and received her Bachelor of Science Degree there. She later attended the University of Cincinnati. Mary met James through a mutual friend in Cincinnati. James’ work at ATT led them to live in various locations such as Chicago, Cleveland, Cooperstown, New York, and Kansas City, Missouri. James and Mary would move to Linn Creek, Missouri in 1988 to make their home. She spent her career working as a Medical Technologist and continued that career until her retirement from Lake Regional Hospital.

She was a member of the Linn Creek Christian Church for many years.

In her spare time, Mary enjoyed traveling, photography and reading. She was a wonderful woman who loved everyone and never met a stranger. She had a fondness for animals and adopted many animals and donated her time and money to help animals in need.

We celebrate her life and many accomplishments and will treasure the wonderful memories Mary has created for her family and friends.
