William A. McCarthy, 94, of West Haven entered into rest on January 9, 2023.  He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Hart McCarthy.  He was born in New York and enjoyed his childhood summers in Rockaway Beach. Bill and Dorothy created a wonderful legacy of five children, William (Nancy) McCarthy, Karen (Louis) Celone, Donna (Bill) Horobin, Linda (Rick) McCarthy-Vargo and John (Cathy) McCarthy; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  Bill was predeceased by his parents William F. and Ethel Murray McCarthy, a sister Betty Taylor and 2 brothers Jack and Tom McCarthy.

For many years, Bill and Dorothy worked side by side at their clothing store Casual Den in West Haven, previously Bill worked for many years in the canteen and vending business.  A Hamden High School graduate Bill was known as a standout for his track & field accomplishments. His many hobbies thru the years were a coin collector, an excellent bowler and loved watching the Mets play baseball. In his retirement he enjoyed painting and rebuilding vintage radios. He adored his wife and children, grandchildren and great grandchildren always making us laugh with his animal impressions.  He was very proud of his Irish decent.  He often said, his greatest gift from God was his wife Dot a cancer survivor they were married 72 years 

The hours for visitation will take place on Sunday January 15, 2023 from 1 to 3 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the green.  On Monday morning a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30, in St. John XXIII Parish, at St. Louis Church.  Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
