Myra Van Stempvoort passed away at the Simcoe Hospice in Barrie on Jan 28, 2020 at the age of 91. She is survived by her husband John Van Stempvoort to whom she was married for nearly 67 years. Myra was born in 1928 in East Saugatuck, Michigan to Ralph & Mary (Hagelskamp) Brink. She was the seventh of nine siblings, all of whom have predeceased her, except her youngest sister Kathryn Van Drunen (Peter) and sisters-in-law, Edith Brink and Geri Van Stempvoort. Myra was a kind, patient, loving mother to six children: Randy Van Stempvoort (Alice), Mark Van Stempvoort, Dale Van Stempvoort (Herma), Sharon Hartholt (Ron), Janice Van Bolhuis (Ed), and Jeff Van Stemp (Yvonne). She was a much appreciated grandmother to fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. Myra grew up in western Michigan and attended the Reformed Bible Institute there. After her marriage in 1953, she and her husband, a pastor, lived in a number of different places in the United States and Canada. The last thirteen years were spent at the Tollendale Retirement Community in Barrie, Ontario. She was a member of the Woodbridge Maranatha Christian Reformed Church. Myra loved music and played the organ for church services for about 70 years. She also expressed her creativity in her younger years by doing a lot of sewing, gardening and some oil painting as well. In the past, she volunteered in nursing homes and children's ministry. Myra was a selfless person who was devoted to her family and, above all, to her Lord and Saviour.
