Obituary

Lucinda Florio (Coleman) age 75 passed away peacefully on November 16, 2022 Wife of 34 years of the late James J. Florio. Survived by her son Mark (Shelly) Rowe. her stepchildren Christopher (Helen) Florio, Gregory (Ann) Florio, Catherine (Marc) Pipas. Grandmother of Matthew, Chelsea, Alexandra, Elizabeth, Peter Florio, Victoria and Stephanie Pipas, Jack, Troy and Bret Rowe. Great grandmother of Esme` and Bodhi Florio.

 
Lucinda was born in Indiana and at a young age moved to South Jersey with her late parents Thomas and Jane Coleman. She had five siblings - Mary Jane Thornborough, the late Barbara Miller, Lillie Haig, Tom Coleman, Joanne Coleman. She was married at a young age and was a proud mother to Mark Rowe. With a passion for education, Lucinda attended Glassboro State College while raising her son. She was an elementary school teacher in Pine Hill for ten years. After her divorce, she met James Florio while living in the same apartment complex. It was love at first sight and they were soon married while James was Congressman from the First District of New Jersey. When Jim was elected Governor, Lucinda took on the role as First Lady and championed many initiatives for children's literacy, education and women's rights. After leaving office, Jim and Lucinda moved to Metuchen, NJ where she continued to work for many charitable organizations including the YMCA.
 
Nothing brought more joy to Lucinda than bringing her family together for summer vacations in Sea Isle City, NJ over the last twenty years. She adored her ten grandchildren and treasured the time spent with each of them. Over the past eleven years, Lucinda had a special place in her heart for her Boston Terroir, Margo.
 
Over six years ago, Jim and Lucinda moved to Moorestown, New Jersey to be closer to family. Jim continued to work and Lucinda remained active in her new community. For everyone who knew Lucinda, she was a fun loving, caring, warm hearted individual who will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Visitation Friday November 25th from 2- 4 pm at the Lewis Funeral Home, 78 E. Main St. Moorestown, NJ. A private service will be held immediately after the visitation time.

Burial will occur with her husband James in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
