Alma Lee Allen Obituary

Alma Lee Allen, 89, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Grace Living Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Alma lived many years with her husband, Heagle, in Wetumka, Oklahoma.
Both moved to Grace Living Center on June 17, 1997. Heagle preceded her in death on December 5, 1997. Alma was born October 31, 1918 to Lee Anderson Diggs and Mary Melinda (Cantrell) Diggs at Milburn, Oklahoma in Johnson County. Alma attended school at Filmore Boardtree, 10 miles south of Wilson, through the 8th grade.

Alma and Heagle were married on April 1, 1933 at Oswalt, Oklahoma, near Wilson. They were married 64 years. They moved to California and Alma worked in the shipyards during WWII and the couple moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1963 where Alma worked in a steam laundry. A drunken driver crashed through the front of the laundry and she was severely burned by broken steam pipes. In 1971 they moved to Oklahoma City and then Wetumka in 1980 where they lived until 1997. Alma enjoyed cooking at Grace Living Center in their cooking club for many years. Alma has one living sister, Vera Warren, in Atoka, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Heagle, and her parents; five sisters, Bertha, Mollie, Thursie, Ada, and Lorene; and three brothers, Elmer, Huie, and Burl Diggs. She leaves behind nieces and nephews including Morris and Doris Garner; Billy and Mary Henry and Corene Henry, all of Norman and numerous good friends including a very good friend in Wetumka, Ruby Graham.

Services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Hudson-Phillips Chapel with Alma"s nephew, Reverend Mike Garner, Chaplain at Norman Regional Hospital, officiating. He will be assisted by Reverend Jerry Rhoades, Pastor of Seniors, from Cross Pointe Community Church in Norman. Burial will follow the service at Wetumka Cemetery in Wetumka, Oklahoma under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, 301 East Main, Holdenville. 8/27/2008 10:00 AM Funeral Hudson-Phillips Chapel, 301 East Main Street, Holdenville
