Rosalind Chambers Obituary

Rosalind Chambers, affectionately known as “Auntie or Roz”, was born on February 7, 1949, in Newark, New Jersey.  She departed this life on Thursday, December 22, 2022. Rosalind was the 4th of 5 children born to Alfred and Thelma (Moore) Chambers.

            Rosalind was educated in the Newark Public Schools System. She graduated from South Side High School in 1966. During her high school years, she was an active member of the Bossa Nova’s Social Club and the Girls Glee Club. After high school, Rosalind had a strong interest in fashion and marketing. Over the next several years, she pursued various employment opportunities in the industry. In 1983, she received her B.S. in marketing from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Rosalind was drawn to the bright lights of New York City and subsequently spent most of her career working for various New York retailers.  In her free time, she loved to shop and was known as a “sharp dresser”.  She was the glue of her family and never missed an opportunity to gather for any occasion. Rosalind was also an avid traveler and enjoyed spending time with her circle of friends and taking care of her parakeet, Baraka. After retiring, Rosalind dedicated her time to the Teaneck Senior Center.

            At an early age, Rosalind accepted Christ and was baptized at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newark, NJ.  As a young adult, she joined the Good Neighbor Baptist Church (Newark, NJ where she was an active member and Sunday School Teacher. Rosalind later relocated to Teaneck, NJ and joined First Baptist Church of Teaneck where she remained a diligent servant, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Marilyn Harris, until the time of her death. As a member of First Baptist, Rosalind lent her talents as a flower guilder and was a member of the Usher Board and the Women’s Ministry. She also served as chairperson of the Scholarship Committee.

Rosalind was preceded in death by her parents: Alfred and Thelma (Moore) Chambers; brothers William Chester “Butch” Chambers and Andrew “BB” Knight, Jr. ; and Niece: Kena Porcher.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one sister Shirley Chambers of Middleburg Florida, one brother Michael Chambers of Union, New Jersey.  Sister in Laws: Pamela Marshall and Peggy Knight. She is also survived by her nephews: Andrew Knight III, Kyle Knight, Steven, Brandon, Rashan and Altarik Chambers, Duquan and Lionel Marshall; Nieces: Sharon Chambers, Angelique Nelson, Sage Sheilanda Knight, Tahira Chambers, Nadira Lewis, Latifa Graham and Hasana Marshall and a host of nieces and nephews, god children, cousins and friends.
