<p>Our beloved mother and grandmother, Roberta Maye Cook, joined our Heavenly Father December 30th, 2022, passing away in her home in Clearfield, IA.</p><p><br></p><p>Roberta was born on a farm south of Clearfield, IA, February 10, 1928, to Robert L and Maye E (Bender) Matthews. At a young age the family moved northwest of Clearfield. She was the youngest of three children, being welcomed into the family by two older brothers, Kenneth and Carrol.</p><p><br></p><p>Roberta graduated from Clearfield High School in 1945. On February 14, 1948, she was united in marriage to George D Cook of Lenox, IA where they made their home. To this union three daughters were born: Virginia Lee, Suanne and Ilene Kay.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1961, the family moved to a farm northwest of Clearfield. After the passing of her husband, George in 1978, Roberta moved into the town of Clearfield. She continued to live in the house built by her parents until her passing. Roberta enjoyed cooking and baking all of her life and she felt fortunate to cook at the Clearfield School for 15 years.</p><p><br></p><p>Preceding her in death was her husband, George, her parents, Robert and Maye Matthews, two brothers, Kenneth Matthews and Carrol Matthews, son-in-law, Robert Brashears, sisters-in-law Mildred Matthews, Juanita Matthews, Helen Springer, and Betty O’Riley.</p><p><br></p><p>Survivors include daughters Virginia DeFrance (husband David) of Des Moines, IA, Suanne Brashears of St. Joseph, MO, Ilene Wadley (husband John) of Carpinteria, CA, grandchildren Eric John of Overland Park, KS, Thomas DeFrance of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Mary DeFrance (husband David Sadler) of Tarragona, Spain, Matthew Creighton of Auckland, New Zealand, Claire Creighton of Carpinteria, CA , great grandchildren Phinnius Sadler DeFrance and Scarlett Sadler DeFrance.</p><p><br></p><p>She was loved by her children and adored by her grandchildren. Roberta’s warm personality was apparent to people that met her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered, most especially by her family.</p><p><br></p><p>A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided.</p>
