On January 1, 2023, William Edward Brooks, Jr. (affectionately known as Nukie/Nuke) passed away in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth, VA. Nukie was born on February 11, 1943, to the late William E. and Sallie Mae Brooks.

Nukie was a graduate of Crestwood High School, and he received his undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Norfolk State University. He was one of the first African American managers at the General Electric plant in Suffolk. His 20 year-career at General Electric lasted until their doors closed in 1986. Nukie was a faithful, active member of Grove Church.
