Wilbur Johnson

<p>Wilbur Johnson, Jr. 65, a native of Ludowici,, Ga. and resident of Augusta, Ga. passed away on December 26, 2022. He was born on October 31, 1957 to the late Wilbur Johnson, Sr. and Ruth Evelyn Derry in Savannah, Ga. Wilbur was educated in the public school system of Long County and graduated in the Class of 1975. He attended Savannah State College from 1975-1979. Wilbur later furthered his education and graduated from Troy State University in 2005. Wilbur joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1980 to 1985. He also joined the United States Marine Reserves from 1986 to 1991, where he served his country well as an active duty E4 CPL Military Policeman in support of Desert Storm. Wilbur received an Honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps along with awards in good conduct, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Pistol Sharpshooter Badge, and a Certificate of Appreciation. </p><p><br></p><p>Wilbur married Bernice Johnson in 1980, from which two daughters were born to this union, Latanya Johnson and Kenia Lewis. He was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the current leadership of Rev. Dr. James Evans. He was exemplary in most everything he did and will be forever remembered for his larger-than-life personality among his family and friends. Wilbur was preceded in death by both parents, Wilbur, Sr. and Ruth E. Derry Johnson and a brother, Gregory Derry.</p><p><br></p><p>He leaves to cherish his memories: his two daughters, LaTanya Johnson (Jerome Pollard) and Dr. Kenia (Christopher) Lewis; two grandchildren, Jade Pollard and Bella Lewis; his only sister, Dr. Delores Mallard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss him immensely.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 07, 2023 @ 11:00 AM with an hour of viewing prior to services (from 10:00 am until 11:00 am) at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 37 Lincoln Street, Ludowici, Ga. 31316. Services will be live streamed thru our website: Royalfuneralhomeinc.com. Everyone planning to attend are asked to kindly wear your mask to prevent further spreading of the Covid Virus. Also, attendees are asked to please consider wearing blue in honor of Wilbur, whose favorite color was blue. </p><p><br></p><p>Interment will be held on Monday, January 09, 2023 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 US Hwy 301, Glennville, Ga. with Military Honors @ 10:00 AM.</p>
