Died peacefully in Ottawa in the Civic Hospital.

Leaving to mourn his wife of 58 years, Vivien, 3 daughters, Sandra, Suzie and Sally (son-in-law Sumi Aota), 2 granddaughters, Kimberly and Jocelyn, Atsuko Aota, Eriko and Take Saito, cousin Christine Guile (Tim) and their children: Alice, Laura and Thomas and cousin Christine Mountford in England and many friends and students in Ottawa, Newfoundland and elsewhere in Canada, the USA and UK. We wish to thank the staff of Wards 5A and 5B and The Palliative Care Team at the Civic Hospital for their great care and compassion. Basic Funerals, Ottawa. Cremation has taken place. 

Retired Professor of Classics in Memorial University of Newfoundland then Part-time Professor of Classics in the University of Ottawa and in the Humanities Program in Carleton University until age 74, retired due to deteriorating eyesight. Known for his research and publications on the ancient Latin Author, Vergil and especially "Aeneid Book 6", Aeneas' descent into the underworld at Lake Avernus, Southern Italy. He led several tours of this area for The Vergilian Society of America based at the Villa Vergiliana at Cuma.
