Ann L. (Slattery) Davis Obituary

Ann Lee (Slattery) Davis entered eternal rest on December 12, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.

Ann Davis was born in Lincoln, NE. September 23, 1937, to Earl and Norma (Byers) Slattery. Her family later relocated to Fremont, NE where she graduated from high school and attended Midland University. While attending Midland University, she met John J. Davis of Council Bluffs. They were joined in marriage on August 26, 1956, in Fremont, NE. This union was later blessed with two children, a daughter Diane, and a son William (Bill) and the Davis family was complete.

After their marriage, John and Ann relocated to Chicago, IL, and later to Dubuque, IA where Ann worked to put John through seminary. Following his ordination, John and Ann went on to serve several Presbyterian and Methodist churches in Iowa and Nebraska. Their ministry appointments included Morning Sun, Adair, Rippey and Lake Park in Iowa; and Omaha, Beaver Crossing, Arnold and Oakland-Lyons in Nebraska. Though living in many church parsonages, Ann had a wonderful way of making a house a “home” no matter where they served. Ann loved people and ministering with John, especially calling on shut ins. She also loved to bake Amish Sugar Cookies and always had a plate ready for each visit.

Ann loved her family dearly and unconditionally. As the family grew, she enjoyed the many times when her family gathered and smiled as her husband John would say, “It’s just so nice to have the whole family together.” They also enjoyed their quiet time after big family gatherings with the grandkids.

Following her husband John’s death in 1997, Ann re-located to Council Bluffs to be near family. Her love for people continued and she found her niche working at the Council Bluffs Service League Thrift Shop, and later at Walgreens on Madison Avenue in Council Bluffs.

Ann relocated to Bethany Heights Assisted Living in 2013 where she remained until her passing. She loved living there, making new friends and staying active. Known for sharing her thoughts and feelings, one of her greatest gifts was the genuine love and support she gave to others. Always offering an encouraging word, she took great joy in sharing her faith, her kindness, and was a living example to those around her. She would never hesitate to say, “You’re beautiful” and “I love you.”

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1997 and her parents Earl and Norma Slattery.

Ann leaves a wonderful legacy through her family. She is survived by her daughter Diane and husband Roger Carlon of Council Bluffs, her son Bill and wife Cindy Davis of Sioux City, grandchildren Nathan and wife Angela Davis, Kaitlin Carlon, Natalie (Carlon) and husband Jack Murphy, Mikayla (Davis) and husband Andrew Carson; great grandchildren, Calian Carson and Beatrice Murphy as well as numerous extended “family” members including the staff and residents at Bethany Heights and many friends.

The family would like to especially thank the staff of Bethany Heights and Hillcrest Hospice for their loving, compassionate care. Also, thank you to the residents of Bethany Heights for their wonderful friendships.

Ann will be laid to rest with a private family burial. Memorials may be directed to Hillcrest Hospice, 1702 W. Broadway Suite #7 Council Bluffs, Iowa 51501
