Rita Joanne Hiebert Gay

Louisville, GA –         Rita Joanne Hiebert Gay was born on January 8, 1956 to Julian and Zetta Hiebert in Louisville. She passed away on December 9, 2022 in her home after a valiant fight with cancer, reaching the age of 66 years.  Funeral services will be held in the Pinecrest Mennonite Church at 10:30AM Monday morning, December 12, 2022, with interment following in the church cemetery.

Accepting Christ as her Savior, Rita was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by Minister Maynard Peters on February 25, 1973.  She embraced this faith all of her life.

Rita grew up on the family dairy farm, receiving her education at Louisville Academy and Pinecrest Mennonite School. Rita enjoyed working and was always busy.  She worked at various medical facilities and became inspired to pursue a nursing career, working at Jefferson Hospital for many years.  Cooking and baking for someone or having company was a pleasure to her.

On April 23,2006, she was united in marriage to Ricky Gay. They made their home in Louisville. Yardwork, gardening and vacations were enjoyed together.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ricky Gay of Avera; two brothers, Rodney Hiebert (Gladys) and Clark  Hiebert  (Deborah); three sisters, Phyllis Wenger, Grace Giesbrecht (Verle), and Elizabeth Hiebert; sister-in-law, Sharon Hiebert; and special nieces and nephews.  Those preceding her in death include her parents, Julian and Zetta Hiebert; and brother-in-law, Harold Wenger.

The family will receive friends at Pinecrest Mennonite Church from 6:30 – 8:30 PM Sunday evening, December 11, 2022.
