Violet Irene Gibson

Violet "Vi" Irene Gibson, 90, was received home by her loving Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, December 11, 2015. She was born on August 16, 1925, in Ellendale, North Dakota, to Jacob and Kate Schmitt, and lived most of her life in Sacramento, CA until she moved to Elk Grove six years ago. She worked at the State Employment Development Department where she met her loving husband of 55 years, Art Gibson, who preceded her in death in 1999. They were married at St. Luke's Lutheran Church on Valentine's Day in 1944. She was also proceeded in death by her parents, two sisters, Pauline Ensinger and Lantina "Tina" Kerschman and a brother, Arthur Schmitt. She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Pat (Gibson) and Ron Webb and Kathy (Gibson) and Vern Rose; grandsons, Shawn (Delana) Jackson, Kevin Webb and granddaughter, Brooke (Charles) Cloud; great grandchildren, Marlo, Cooper and Sawyer Jackson and Isla Mae Cloud. She is also survived by her sister, Lily Meachen. Violet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed. She was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Sacramento, CA for over 60 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling to Hawaii. The family wishes to thank Alexander's Residence for Seniors for their loving care for the last three years as well as Sutter Home Hospice Care. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 7595 Center Parkway, Sacramento 95823, to be followed by a light luncheon in Schultz Hall.
