Paul C. Zalog Obituary

Paul C. Zalog, age 94, of Sun City West, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022.  He was born on April 5, 1928, to the late Demeter and Mary (Skrepich) Zalog in Lorain, Ohio.  He attended Lorain High School graduating in the class of 1946. Paul enlisted in the United States Army on September 10, 1946, and after basic training and attending machinist school he became an instructor at The Ordnance School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.  He was discharged as a corporal on September 9, 1948.

Following his military service, Paul furthered his education at Kent State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1951.  He then attended the University of Florida where he attained a Master’s degree in Education in 1952.  He married Janet Carol Dimski at St. Gregory’s Greek Catholic Church in Lakewood, Ohio on July 19, 1953. 

Paul joined IBM Corporation in 1957 in Cleveland, Ohio and worked for IBM for over 31 years in various positions and in various locations.  He retired from the position of Senior Industry Administrator in Industrial Automation Market Development in Boca Raton, Florida on November 30, 1988. 

While living in Boca Raton, Florida, he was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. He enjoyed sailing both on his own sailboats and participating in Chicago to Mackinaw races as part of a team aboard other boats. He was a member of the Put-In-Bay (Ohio) and Waukegan (Illinois) Yacht Clubs. He was a skier for over 30 years and enjoyed an annual family ski trip to Vail, Colorado for many years.  He was also an avid tennis player participating in many tournaments and leagues.  During his retirement, he also enjoyed time on the beach in Boca Raton and traveled extensively with Janet, visiting many international destinations and enjoying many cruises.

Paul is survived by his loving spouse of 69 years, Janet; his three children, Sue (Joe Wester) Wester, Phil Zalog (Kelly Kernan) and JC Zalog; his grandchildren, Tom (Meredith Lipp) and Laura Wester (Evan John), and Emma and Olivia Zalog; and many other loving family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents Demeter and Mary (Skrepich) Zalog and his nine siblings Victor, Albert, Elizabeth (Gerrick), Marie (Zboray), Helen (Seiling), Dan, Pauline (Baxley), Patricia (Bauman) and Anne (Keevil).
