Lillian Grace Gibson Obituary

Lillian Grace Una Gibson (Holm)

September 25, 1935 - December 6, 2022

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our sister, Mom, Amma, and friend, Lillian Gibson. She’s left to join Dad, who has been patiently waiting the past 2 1/2 years.

This prairie girl was born in Gimli, Manitoba, to Florence Jacobson and Otto Holm. She is the stepdaughter to Omar Plouffe and sister to Milton and Gordon. Lil grew up in Fort Garry, where she attended Bishop Grandin School and met the love of her life, Vincent Gibson. Married for 64 years, together they had 3 children, Ingrid (Rick), Wes, Lorna (Errol), 6 granddaughters, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Lil lived an incredibly full life. She was the first non-Scot member of the Heather Belle Pipeband. She played baseball for the senior Tigerettes team, which was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. Lil worked at HBC switchboard for 15 years and later in the Art department at the U of M bookstore. She was an active member of RKCC; convening, coaching baseball and ringette, and helping with the flying-M track club. She was a Girl Guide leader and member of the Trefoil Guild and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Lil was an artist with the ability to capture the beauty of the world through watercolour. She was an MTC ticket holder for 38 years, attended numerous Rainbow Stage performances, and could be found enjoying any live music around Manitoba. Lil travelled extensively with Vince, the family, and her art crew. One of her favourite spots will always be Gibby’s Corner.

Lil left a legacy of love.

Special thanks for the support from her friends and relatives, Dr. Permack and team, Dr. Scott-Herridge, fantastic staff of Oz Loving Care, and Southeast PCH.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lil’s memory can be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund or Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened.

“I did it my way.”
