Bessie Eckard Kiziah Obituary

Bessie Eckard Kiziah, 84, of Granite Falls passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.


She was born April 20, 1938 in Catawba County to the late Arthur Merlin Eckard and Ollie Mae Shook Eckard. Bessie was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Conover and retired from the furniture industry. She enjoyed family activities, baking cakes, cooking, camping with family and friends, quilting and sewing.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Howard Kiziah; daughter, Lori Kiziah Starnes; brothers; Coy Eckard and Wayne Eckard; and sister, Hilda Little.


Those left to cherish her memory are;


Daughter: Legina Walker and husband Will of Granite Falls


Nieces: Patricia Pritchard (Mike), Pam Murray, and Wendy Crumpton


Nephews: Stephen Eckard (Sandy), Eric Eckard, Richard Eckard (Darlene), Brian Smoker (Kathi)


Numerous Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews


Special Friend: Suzanne Lail, her chai latte and shopping buddy


A service to celebrate Bessie’s life will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Conover. Rev. Kevin Graudin and Rev. Eric Hauss will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Those serving as pallbearers are; Jonathan Eckard, Thomas Eckard, Daniel Eckard, Lance Eckard, Shane Christopher, Michael Pritchard, Jonathan Nugent, and Kyle Murray. Stephen Eckard, Eric Eckard and Richard Eckard will serve as honorary pallbearers.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Quilters Club, 6175 St Peters Church Rd., Conover, NC 28613, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105, or a charity of one’s choice in her honor.
