Fuquay-Varina- Judith (Judy) Matthews Prevatte, 82, died on December 1, 2022. She was born on November 11, 1940 to the late Daniel Ernest Matthews, Jr. and Juanita Upchurch Matthews, in Raleigh, North Carolina at Rex Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens, 905 Wake Chapel Road Fuquay-Varina.

She was a graduate of Millbrook High School and attended Woman’s College (now known as the University of North Carolina at Greensboro). For 30 years she was an active member of First Baptist Church, Cary, NC and after moving to Fuquay-Varina in 1999, was an active member of Wake Chapel Christian Church. Judy also volunteered with The Girl Scouts of America for several years.

Judy is survived by her husband, Alton Leath Prevatte of 54 years, her daughter, Courteney Prevatte Howell, her son-in-law Elijah Glenn Howell, III and granddaughter, Emma Leath Howell. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Kay C. Matthews of Goldsboro, North Carolina, brother-in-law, Donald C. Prevatte of Charleston, South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
