Edith Cody Steelman, 85, of Hickory, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Grace Village Assisted Living in Granite Falls.

She was born February 28, 1937 in Burke County to the late James Leonard Cody and Naomi Price Cody. Edith was of the Christian faith and retired as a knitter in the hosiery industry. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and listening to bluegrass music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lewis Steelman; and sisters, Marjorie, Edna, and Shirley.

Brother: Robert “Buzz” Cody and wife Lydia of Charleston, SC

Sister: Sylvia Brown of Conover

Grandchildren: Melissa Baker, Sara Dement, Victoria Sly, Alexandra Franks, and Nicolette Steelman

Great-Grandchildren: Luke Baker, Eli Baker, Peyton Dement, Karley Dement, and Max Sly

Special Nephew and family: Jason Cook, and wife Beth, and children, Stefani and Randall

A memorial service to celebrate Edith’s life will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Hickory Church of Christ in Hickory. Rev. Kevin Bibbee will officiate.
