<p>Carol Ann (Richards) Bortmess, 86, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at her residence.</p><p><br></p><p>Carol was born on November 13, 1936, in Springfield, the daughter of Oliver Brewster and Annie (Walker) Richards. She married Robert Thomas Bortmess on February 24, 1957, in Springfield.</p><p><br></p><p>Carol was a 1954 graduate of Lanphier High School. She spent her life as a homemaker and retired as a New Account Specialist for Rochester State Bank. Carol enjoyed baking, ceramics and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She always looked forward to an adventure, antiquing and monthly luncheons with her classmates.</p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bruce William and Robert H. Richards; and sister, Sandra Reed.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Bortmess of Springfield; four children, Mark Bortmess of Palm Coast, FL, Tammie Bortmess of Springfield, Renee (husband, Dean) Russell of Macon,GA, and Todd (wife, Jeannie) Bortmess of Frankfort, IL; seven grandchildren, Josh Wieties, Adam Sheppard, Kelsey Fagiano, Courtney Sheppard, Lauren Wieties, Brittany and Nicole Bortmess; and two great-grandchildren, Caison and Cainon.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 8:30 until 9:15 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Ave, West. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial contributions may be made to the Third Presbyterian Church, 1030 North 7th St., Springfield, IL 62702 or a charity of the donor’s choice.</p><p><br></p>

Carol Ann (Richards) Bortmess, 86, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at her residence.
