Anna V Sharp Obituary

Anna V. Sharp, 90, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022.  Anna was born in Decatur, MI, to the late George & Anna May (Houseman) Vliek. Ann is preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven A. Sharp; sisters, Grace McCullough and Esther Bella; and brothers, Harry Vliek, Ward Vliek, Louis Vliek, George Vliek, and Henry Vliek.  Ann is survived by her daughter, Patricia A. Sharp; daughter-in-law, Marcia Sharp; granddaughters, Lisa (Rogelio) Lopez and Victoria (Joshua) Bennett; great-grandchildren, Casi and Paige Haynes and Elliot Bennett; and a brother, Ted Vliek.

Ann graduated from Decatur High School in 1950.  After high school, she moved to Mishawaka and worked at Ball Band from 1951-1959.  She later attended IUSB receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1972 and master’s degree in 1975, both cum laude.  She taught at LaSalle Elementary School from 1972 until her retirement in 1997. 

Ann had many affiliations here in the Mishawaka/South Bend community.  She was on the Board of Directors for Beiger Heritage Corporation, Chairman of the Board of Advisors for many years at the Children’s Museum, served as President and Treasurer of the Mishawaka Garden Club, served on the board of the Friends of the Library, was a member of Coalbush United Methodist Church, a member of the Mishawaka Education Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, and National Education Association.  She was a St Joseph Hospital Auxiliary member and volunteered 1,284 hours at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center-Mishawaka. 

Ann enjoyed swimming, kayaking, ice skating, bowling, and playing 3rd base on the Decatur girls’ softball team during her younger years. 

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 5, 2022, from 4 pm-6 pm at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN.  Funeral Service will be at Noon, with visitation beginning at 10 am, on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Coalbush United Methodist Church, 15977 Jackson Rd, Mishawaka, IN,  with Pastor Larry Chrisman officiating.  Ann will be laid to rest in Lakeside Cemetery in Decatur, MI.
