John Patrick Gibbons, Jr., 80, of Gastonia, NC passed to the next Life on November 19, 2022, in his home peacefully surrounded by his loving family.


He was born in Long Island (Rockville Centre), New York on June 8, 1942, to the late John Patrick Gibbons and Teresa Marie Gibbons.  He graduated Gordon Military High School and Junior College and completed his education at Georgia Southwestern.  John moved to Gastonia with his wife and children in 1986; thereafter retiring after 43 years of dedicated service with Firestone Bridgestone.  He was a member of Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church in Belmont, NC where he was devoted to his parish community.  After retirement, John dedicated time as a weekly volunteer for the BackPack Weekend Food Program of Gaston County.  He enjoyed spending time with his family playing golf and fishing.  Affectionally known as Grandad, his favorite past times were family camping trips and beach adventures with all the grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Gibbons and sister Joan Ginane.


John is survived by his loving and caring wife of 59 years, Linda Jo Gibbons; sister June Brust; “Joys of His Life” sons John Gibbons and wife Wendy, Matt Gibbons and wife Michelle, Mark Gibbons and wife Jessica; “His Delights” grandchildren Emma, Gracie, Maggie, Bryson and Isabella Grace; and other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.


A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, December 19, 2022, at Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church of Belmont, NC.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.


The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the nursing staff, especially Suzanne Poston and Tammy Roberts, of Hospice and Palliative Care Lincoln County for their support and excellent care.
