Jerome "Jerry" Rachner

<p>Jerome "Jerry" Edward Rachner, of Martinsville, passed away November 28 2022 at SOVAH Health in Martinsville. Jerry was born on March 6,1932 in Minneapolis, Minn. to the late Emil B. and Catherine L. Rachner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Annie Miles Rachner. He was also predeceased by brothers, Bernard and Thomas Rachner, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy and June Miles.</p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his son and daughter-in law, Tom and Linda Rachner of Union Hall, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Brian Williams of Martinsville; grandsons, Miles Rachner of Charlottesville, Collin Rachner and wife, Thea of Mt Airy, Md.; and granddaughter, Mary Beth Williams of Lake City, Fla. He is also survived by sisters, Anna Mae Deutsch and Margaret McAtee; brother, Richard Rachner; brother-in-law, Truman Miles and wife, Brenda; along with many nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>Jerry graduated from the University of Illinois with a master's degree in aeronautical engineering and worked with Rockwell International / Boeing where he was a chief engineer for the Hellfire missile project. He is a veteran of the United States Army where he was involved in testing and approval for the famous Huey Helicopters. Jerry was a devoted husband and father who loved golf, baseball, science, woodworking and animals.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial Services will be held at noon on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at St Joseph Catholic Church, Martinsville.</p><p>The visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the church.</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp;Arrangements are being handled by Norris Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Martinsville, the Dan River Basin Association or the Kings Grant Fellowship Fund.</p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to thank the staff at Kings Grant where he lived for their kindness and friendship these last few years.</p>
