Ms. Velma Jean Jackson, age 71 of Midland, TX went to be with the Lord November 21, 2022. She was born June 18, 1951 to the late Sammy Hunt II and Vernell Jolley Hunt in Big Spring, TX.

Velma made a lifelong career in the childcare industry. She was a wonderful mother to not only her two sons, Courtney and Derrick, but she shared that motherly spirit with so many other children over the years. Velma was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to so many. In her spare time you could find her outside gardening in her yard - her grandsons Elijah and Brives would come help. Every Thursday she would go with her son Derrick to get pampered; manicures, pedicures, her hair done, etc. or you could find them at Texas Roadhouse, their favorite restaurant. Velma had a close group of friends whom she spoke very highly of - she would want them to know how special they were to her and how much she cherished their time together. She also loved her neighborhood and kept a watchful eye over everyone.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Derrick Turner of Midland, TX, Courtney Turner of Midland, TX, brothers; Sammy Hunt III of Oceanside, CA, Randell Hunt of Cedar Hill, TX, Allen Hunt of Glava, Sweden and Cornell Hunt of Midland, TX, a host of grandchildren as well as five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sammy Hunt II and Vernell Jolley Hunt, her sisters Linda Hunt Howell and Marilyn Hunt Lewis.

Family will receive friends Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Avalos-Sanchez and Thomas Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 2, 2022 at North Side Church of Christ at 11:00am with Minister Rodney Taylor presiding. Interment to immediately follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
