Obituary

Janice Carol (Barbuto) Wallwork of Waltham passed away in the comfort of her home on the night of Friday Nov 11th.

Born and raised in Newtonville, Jan and her late husband Ed raised four children in Lincoln MA, then retired to the scenic environs of North Waltham. She was a graduate of Newton North High School and LaSalle College.

Janice was a dedicated stay-at-home mother. She shared her mother’s love of gardening and could always be found outdoors planting and tending to the yard and gardens. Daily exercise became increasingly important to her, and she was a fixture on local roads where she ran and biked year-round. Janice was a passionate talk radio listener and news junkie. Afternoons she could always be found listening to Paul Benzaquin and others on WHDH, while the Boston Globe never made it to recycling unopened. It is believed that she did not miss one minute of the Watergate hearings.

Raising children was both a source of great joy and an outlet for her creative energy. In addition to establishing holiday traditions and decorating for all seasons, Janice loved sewing, particularly in the production of matching clothes for her daughters. She loved picking up and refinishing used furniture, with a little decoupage on the side, and was constantly rearranging the household furniture to keep life interesting. Countless hours were spent in the kitchen, baking the usual assortment of birthday cakes, breads, muffins, and cookies as well as a steady stream of “avant garde” casseroles.

Beyond Christmas and family celebrations, Janice always looked forward to the family’s annual vacations in West Dennis and Martha’s Vineyard, where extreme quantities of fried seafood and nightly rounds of the “M&M” game were enough to keep the family entertained and well-fed.

Once her children were older, Janice re-entered the workforce in a variety of capacities ranging from bus tour guide to foot-pedaling Baba Rum cakes in Boston’s South End. In particular, she enjoyed her years working with the public as a registration representative at the Boston Convention Center.

Predeceased by her parents, Louis and Jean Barbuto, her sister Norma, and her husband of 62 years, Edwin Wallwork.

Janice is survived by her loving four children: Richard and his wife Eileen of Newbury, David of Derry NH, Susan and her husband Robert of East Kingston NH, and Laura and her husband Samad of Bradford; seven grandchildren whom she adored: Josh, Tabita, Soumia, Erin, Robert, Brian (Mackie), and Casey, as well as her dear sister Shirley of Worcester MA and many nieces and nephews who she treasured.

There will be a private Memorial ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 30th in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco and Sons Memorial Chapels located in Waltham MA. A private burial will follow at Mt. Feake Cemetery in Waltham. The family would like to thank their family and friends for their kind expressions of sympathy.
