Obituary
Edna Louise Jackson was born on November 12, 1927 in the Oates Community of Darlington County, South Carolina, a daughter of Edna Damon and Winston Dixon. On November 28, 2022, God called Louise home and she answered his call graciously.
She was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. She was employed for many years at Byerly Hospital in Hartsville, South Carolina as the Head Cook and retired after an injury. Upon retiring, Louise had a passion for decorating and cooking. She was known for making her famous Japanese Fruit cake which is a family recipe that goes back many generations. She was a longtime member of Savannah Grove A.M.E. Church where she worshipped and served faithfully. Not being a member of St. John United Methodist Church, she also worshipped and served her late husband the late Howard Jackson and family.
Louise Dixon was united in Holy matrimony to Howard Jackson in January 1950 and to this union they were blessed with six children. After marriage, she and her family moved to Hartsville, South Carolina.
Mrs. Jackson grew up on a farm where she actually loved picking cotton and taught her children that craft very well, along with working in tobacco. At an early age Louise started teaching her children how to work and earn money for themselves. But not only did she love her children, she loved all children from all walks of life. She started teaching her children how to spell before they started school. If they wanted a treat such as an apple, or an orange, she was the one who issued out candy when she thought is was appropriate because our anytime snacks were fruit, ice cream, crab apples, and carrots which she kept all year round. She only had two house rules for them growing up one of which was always wash your hands before opening the refrigerator or getting something to eat and the other was, if you don’t go to church on Sunday, you couldn’t do anything else that week.
As the years passed, and the children grew with kids of their own, Louise became involved with the Senior Citizen group where they took trips to different places to eat, shop, also going to the movies or other outings. Louise also participated with the Senior Citizen’s exercise group and sometimes just doing things with some of her girlfriends. But most of all, she loved having her grandchildren around. She made it a priority to send each grandchild a birthday card with $1 in it every year for their birthday and she never forgot as long as she could and was able to do it herself. Everyone of those grands looked forward to receiving that special birthday card.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, he son, Hayward, and three grandchildren, Ashley, Darius, and Tiffany.
Edna Louise Jackson leaves to cherish her memories her children, Ruth (Richard) Brown of Sumter, SC, Loretta Jackson of Hartsville, SC. Charles (Lorrie) Jackson of Blairsville, PA, Vanessa (Michael) Wright of Ellenwood, GA, and Dennis Pedro Jackson of Hartsville, SC; ten grandchildren, Stacy, Desiree’, Mikia, Qiana, Andre, Nachenga, Ryan, Isaac, Quadrae, and Brittany; twelve great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Mazie Jackson of Florence, SC; her sister, Nellie Mae Evans of Darlington, SC, her sister-in-law, Annette Drummond of Bronx, NY, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Marie Bacote Burris who assisted with Louise’s care before entering the nursing home, her sister Nellie Dixon Evans and her sister-in-law Annette S. Drummond for the many times of enjoyment they always shared with each other after all others on both sides have passed on.
