Martha B. Thorne
<p>Martha B. Thorne, 92 years, of Weldon, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2022, at the Hampton Woods Nursing Home in Jackson, North Carolina.</p><p>Martha was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 30, 1930, the daughter of the late Dewey Manila and Dorothy Evelyn (Minnich) Brown. She attended The Ohio State University with a major in science. Martha worked as a high school teacher at Weldon High School from 1960-1961 and then as an Education Officer for the US Air Force at Roanoke Rapids Air Force Station from 1961-1978 until it closed. Martha was a former Town of Weldon Commissioner from 1977-2003. She was a member and attended the Weldon United Methodist Church.</p><p>In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, William Walton Thorne, Sr. whom she married on November 28, 1953. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Reggie) McKenzie of Georgetown, Ohio; William (Patty) Thorne of Macon, Georgia; David (Kim Jackson) Thorne, of Weldon; and Donna (Ted) Edwards of Margarettsville, North Carolina. Martha will be missed by her seven grandchildren, Steve (Jennifer), Stephanie, William (Kate), Flynn (Michelle), Taryn (Noah), Lauren (Brantley), and Branden (Chelsea) as well as her eleven great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Abigail, Molly, Ella, Emma, Justine, Stella, Gunnar, Worth, Allie and Connar.</p><p>Private services officiated by Sue Owens will be held for Martha at the graveside as requested by the family.</p><p><br></p>Obituary
