Michael J. Mulcahy
Troy, Michigan
Age 77
Michael was the beloved husband of Muriel for 53 wonderful years; cherished father of Kathleen
(Kirk) Dedenbach of Troy, John (Dawn) Mulcahy of Troy, Jennifer Mulcahy of Shelby Township and
Kevin Mulcahy of Columbus, Ohio; loving grandfather of Claire, Paul, Karis, Joseph, Isela, Jack and
Meredith; dear brother of Kathleen (the late Charles) Emery of Grosse Pointe; and treasured uncle to
many nieces and nephews. Sadly, Michael was preceded in death by his grandson Brendan and his
siblings Thomas, James, John and Daniel.
Michael was born and raised in Detroit and was one of six children of Patrick and Beatrice Mulcahy,
who emigrated from Ireland. Michael attended Holy Redeemer Grade School and High School,
graduating in 1962. He then earned his bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees from the University of
Detroit.
Michael retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1999 after 30 years of service. He continued in
private practice at Varnum, where he helped clients with estate and gift tax cases. Michael was
considered an expert in estate tax law and selflessly devoted time throughout his career to educating
many in his field.
Michael met the love of his life, Muriel, when they both volunteered to serve their community with
Holy Redeemer’s Chapel Crew. They were married on September 5 th , 1969. Michael and Muriel were
active members of St. Peter’s Parish in Mount Clemens for more than 40 years where he contributed
his time and experience to the financial committee.
Michael enjoyed both coaching and watching his children and grandchildren participate in youth
sports. He also liked playing golf with friends and spending summers tending to the vegetable garden
in his backyard, sharing the bounty with friends and neighbors.
God blessed Michael with a long and healthy life, a devoted wife, loving children and grandchildren,
and friends too numerous to count. His memory will live on in all our hearts.
