Nelida Lopez (a.k.a., “Nelly”), age 79, received her angel wings on November 23rd at approximately 5 AM, in the loving and comforting presence of her three daughters and son-in-law. Devoted mother and homemaker, Nelly was the epitome of strength, determination, grace and perseverance. But above all else, she was the embodiment of love, generosity and motherhood. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. She didn’t just dote on us; we were her epic love story.

If her life were a story, would anyone want to read it?

Absolutely they would! She led a remarkable life replete with romance, adventure, adversities, victory, and twists and turns. Her ex-husband, Angel Luis Febus, Sr., is one of her closest friends and the co-star of her epic love story. He misses his friend and main protagonist.

She is survived by her seven children: Lizzette Torres, Miriam Febus, Angel L. Febus Jr., José Luis Febus, Luis Fernando Febus, Mineliz Febus and Luis Daniel Febus; her grandchildren: Gil, Jr., Melanie, Angel Luis III, Andrew, Anthony, Kevin, Keith, Taurean, Angelica, Fernando, Bryan, and Nathaniel. Great-grandchildren (in no particular order): Andrew, Jr., Isais, Anisa, Gil III, Yadiel, Aribella, Kayson, and Angelee. Her in-laws: Gil Sr., Calvin, Yoli, Maureen, Michelle, and Iris. She has one living sister, Noemi Lopez.

Her friends and family will miss her. She didn’t just light up an entire room, it burst into all the pretty colors. May she bring as much joy and beauty in heaven as she had on earth.

Her funeral service is on Tuesday, November 29th, at 10 AM. Close friends and family are all welcome.
