Earl Martin Vasterling Obituary

Earl Martin Vasterling, 99, was born August 21, 1923 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to Martin and Amanda Vasterling.  He passed away on November 27, 2022 in Pocatello.


Earl’s dad passed away when he was eleven and he went to live with an aunt and uncle on their farm until he went in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was a navigator on the B-29 bomber. After discharge, he met and married Doris Hanson on March 4, 1945. They eventually moved to Roseburg, Oregon. Together, they raised three children – Dawne, Steven, and Rhonda. He loved the Roseburg area and spent time hunting and fishing every moment he could find. He made many great friends that he cherished until he passed away. He spent the last nine months living in Pocatello with Steve and Karen.


Earl worked in the timber industry and became a proficient saw filer. He eventually owned his own business sharpening saws. He was proud to have had accounts in 48 states.


Earl is survived by his sister, Leta Leadbetter; his son, Steve (Karen); his daughter Rhonda (Guy) and grandchildren and great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; his daughter, Dawne; and a brother and sisters in Missouri.
