James M. Wright Obituary

Jim was born on May 6, 1926 at home in Dallas, Texas, the third child of Guy and Allie (Brown) Wright. He grew up in Dallas and graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1944. Immediately after graduation, Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 18. Jim served bravely and valiantly with the Army Infantry 7th Division during World War II in the Pacific Theater, receiving one Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in June 1946..

After returning from war, Jim worked for the William Zapatina Company as a flower deliverer, servicing retail florists in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. And this is where Jim’s life truly began; because it was one fateful day making a delivery that he met the love of his life, Trudie Langley. After a brief courtship, they wed March 14, 1951. Jim and Trudie were married for 60 years and their life together was a blessing to all who knew them.

Jim’s career continued as an accountant for W.M. Smith Electric Company in Dallas, Texas for 35 years and later as an accountant for RDT in Waxahachie, Texas. He retired in 2004.

Jim and Trudie moved to Waxahachie in 1979 so Jim could fulfill Trudie’s lifelong dream of owning a historic home. Here they became active members of Brown Street Church of Christ, and Jim served as a Deacon of the church for several years. They opened their home to countless church functions and rousing 42 parties. Jim loved his church and considered its many members to be his second family.

Jim is survived by his children Dana Wright and wife Sheila, Glenn Wright, and Marsha Wright Adams and husband Kevin. He is also survived by his grandchildren Susan (Jason) Ellis, James (Tiffany) Wright, Brittnie (Brandon) Blackburn, Ashley (Scott) Powers, Garna Wright, Clancey (Tom) Chapman, and Brogan Adams, and 7 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Trudie, brother William Wright, sister Elsie Tillery, baby brother Guy Wright and his parents Guy and Allie Wright.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to Lifeline Chaplaincy-Houston (lifelinechaplaincy.org) or Brown Street Church of Christ “Thursday meals” (cocbrownstreet.org).
