DARTMOUTH-Jose G. Bento, 82 of Dartmouth, died Friday, November 25, 2022 at home, surrounded by his loving family, following a long period of declining health due to cancer.  Jose was born in Furnas, Povoaçao, São Miguel, Açores immigrated to New Bedford in 1977, moving to Dartmouth in 1987.  He was the son of the late Jose Bento Tavares and Maria Albertina Pimentel and the husband for 64 years of Maria da Conçeicão (Carepa) Bento.  He was employed by Windsor Gardens Apartment Complex of Norwood as a maintenance assistant until his retirement.  He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church who enjoyed holiday gathers, watching sports on tv.  But the title he cherished most was "family man".

Survivors include his wife: Maria da Conçeicão (Carepa) Bento of Dartmouth; 2 sons: Jose M. Bento and his companion Grace Medeiros of New Bedford and Luis A. Bento and his wife Linda A. Bento of São Miguel, Açores; 4 daughters: Marianna B. Leonardo and her husband Duarte of New Bedford, Eduarda Soares and her husband Manuel of New Bedford, Maria Bento of Florida and Paula A. Bento and her companion James Amaral of Dartmouth;  brothers: Gualberto Pimentel Bento and his wife Fatima of Furnas, São Miguel, Açores, Luis Bento and his wife Yvonne of Swansea. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.   He was the brother of the late João Manuel Bento and Eduarda Correia and the grandfather of the late Jason B. Leonardo.

Visitation on Thursday morning, December 1, 2022 from 8:30 to 9:30 in the funeral home prior to the Mass.  His Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00.  Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to AUBERTINE-LOPES FUNERAL HOME, 129 Allen Street.  Expanded parking area with handicap accessible entrance to rear of funeral home.
