Somerset— Beatrice T. (Motta) Simons, 86, of Somerset, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at her home. She was the wife of the late Donald A. Simons. Beatrice was born in Somerset, the daughter of the late Augustine and Isabel (Raymond) Motta. Bea began working as a secretary for the former Truesdale Hospital and then as a judicial secretary for the Bristol County Juvenile Court for twenty-five years, retiring in 1998. While working for the Court Mrs Simons  and her husband owned and operated Simons Variety Store on Main Street in Somerset for ten years. Pee Wee also assisted her son Gary with running the former Cove Restaurant which was located in the former Days Inn Fall River and then along with her family owned and operated Simply Simons Restaurant for over thirty years. Mrs. Simons was a life member and Past President of the Louis A Colon Post #72 AMVETS Auxiliary, also served as the Past President of the AMVETS Auxiliary Department of Massachusetts and was the first Women to serve as the Chair of the Somerset Democratic  Town Committee. Bea loved the community and helped numerous people over the years. She truly cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. Survivors are a son: Gary D. Simons and Paula Boothman of Somerset; five grandchildren: Cora, Cindy, Brian, Danielle and Rachel; seven great grandchildren: Mariah, Layla and Luis, Dylan, Hunter, Nathan and Emily along with many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Kevin D. Simons and Brian A. Simons; sister of the late: Belmira Almeida, Isabel Brassard, Hilda Charves, Claudina Benevides and Augustine Motta. Calling Hours for Mrs. Simons will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 4-7pm in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton Street, Somerset. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 9am from the Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10am in Saint Thomas More Church at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 386 Luther Avenue, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow in Nathan Slade Cemetery Somerset.
