Jeanette Wells Ryan, 85, of Roanoke, VA made her journey home to be with her heavenly Father on November 18, 2022.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Carlton Ryan; her son, John Ryan; and her brother, Thomas Wells. 

She graduated from Princeton High School as salutatorian of her class and then received an Associate’s degree from National Business College in Roanoke in 1958.  She retired from Federal Bankruptcy Court in 2000.  Jeanette was an active member of Cave Spring Baptist church. 

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Wendy Hodges (Les); grandson, David Ryan (Liz); grandson, Mark Ryan (Jessee); granddaughter, Rachel Kelley (Michael); sister, Margaret Henderson; sister, Patricia O’Neal (Jay) and sister-in-law, Nancy (Bill); numerous nieces and nephews and her great-grandchildren, Abram, Joanna, Hannah and Peter Ryan.

Jeanette was a gentle-spirited Christian servant whose prayer list lay on the side table in her den where she petitioned God daily for His comfort for those that she loved.  She put feet to her faith by visiting the ladies in her Sunday school class who were sick or in assisted living and needed some companionship and conversation, a ride to the doctor, or simply a lunch buddy.  

She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was happy to share stories of her family and how much they meant to her!  Jeanette will be missed for the many ways that she so generously cared for her family and friends - for her kind words, her cards and letters, her words of encouragement, her genuine interest, and her self-sacrificing actions.  (And her pound cake, too!)

A funeral service to honor Jeanette’s life will be held at 2PM on Saturday, December 3 at Oakey’s South Chapel with Pastor Chip Baggett officiating.  Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  The family will have a visitation and receive friends from 5PM to 7PM on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Oakey’s South Chapel and all are welcome to attend.
