Robert Lawrence Parker Obituary

For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.

I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,

than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

~ Psalm 84: 10

Robert Lawrence Parker, son of the late Paul D. and Katie Sue Clark Parker was born on Tuesday, December 10, 1940 in Northampton County, North Carolina.

Lawrence was educated in the Northampton County Public School System. Upon graduating from Gumberry High, Lawrence matriculated at Harris Barber College in Raleigh, North Carolina. He completed his course studies, an apprenticeship and became a licensed Barber. For many years, he worked at Faison’s Barbershop of Seaboard, North Carolina.

Early in life, Lawrence accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united in Christian Fellowship with the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served the Usher’s Ministry. He attended church until his declining health prevented him from doing so.

Lawrence was united in matrimony to the former Jannie Lockett. This union was blessed with one beautiful daughter. Lawrence enjoyed fishing, cooking barbecue and spending quality time with his family and close friends. He was also a member of the Seaboard Civic Club.

On Thursday, November 24, 2022, while in the care of Signature Healthcare of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, our dear loved one peacefully transitioned from earthly labor unto eternal rest. In addition to his loving parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul C. Parker.

We thought of you today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday and the day before that too. We think of you in silence and often speak your name. Now all we have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part. God has you in His keeping and we have you in our hearts: one daughter, Tanangela Parker-Moody of Seaboard, North Carolina, his grandson, whom he helped to rear, Phillip L. Parker of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; three sisters, Susie P. Oldham of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Jacqueline P. Henderson of Seaboard, North Carolina and Lois P. Edmond of Clayton, North Carolina; one brother, Anthony Tann (Anita) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a daughter-at-heart, Dalene G. Walker of Conway, North Carolina; two granddaughters-at-heart, Tiffany D. Moody of Gaston, North Carolina and Tangi G. Moody of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
