Sister Mary Zigo, age 106, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.

The former Mary Zigo, also known as Sister Medard and Sister Mary Zigo was born on October 11, 1916, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Stephen and Katharine (Kucey) Zigo. She entered the convent in 1932 and professed her vows in 1935. Sister Mary earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wisconsin.

Sister Mary Served as a teacher at St. Mary, Rhinelander; St. Theresa, Appleton; St. Mary, Clarks Mills; St. John, Seymour; St. Philip, Green Bay; St. Mary, Algoma; St. Peter, Ashton; Sacred Heart, Oshkosh; St. Mary, Reedsville, all of Wisconsin; St. Agnes, Mingo Junction and St. Nicholas, Zanesville, both of Ohio; teacher / principal at St. John, Wellsburg, West Virginia. After retiring from teaching, Sister Mary tutored and did a variety of ministries at St. Nicholas, Zanesville, SS Peter & Paul, Wellston, Ohio, and Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Since 2010, Sister Mary had been a resident of St. Rita Health Center, Manitowoc.

Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Stephen, Katharine (Kucey) and stepmother Anna (Soter) Zigo; siblings: Paul (Rita) Zigo, Phyllis (John) Stone; Joseph Zigo; stepbrothers/sisters: George (Anna) Soter, John (Faye) Soter, Mike (Mary) Soter, Mary (Orville) Graves; half-brothers/sisters: Margaret (Glen) Corbin, Rose (Edward) Donnely, and Joseph (Betty) Zigo.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, November 28, 2022, at the Holy Family Convent Chapel, 2409 S. Alverno Rd., Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass will be the Rev. Placid Stroik, OFM. with burial to follow at the Holy Family Convent Cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm at the Holy Family Convent Chapel. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
