John S. Eberle
<p>Colonel John S. Eberle, 92, of Bedford, and formerly of Lyndonville, NY, died on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at his residence. He was born on November 5, 1930, in Lyndonville, NY a son of the late Arthur Mills and Doretta W. (Rynders) Eberle. On April 5, 1958 in Washington, D.C. he married Betsey (Ball) Eberle who survives along with the following family, three sons: William Robert Eberle of Ada, MI; Peter Mills Eberle and wife Mary Beth of New Kensington, PA; Michael Ball Eberle and wife Kristi Mueller of Gaithersburg, MD; eight grandchildren: John Lyle, Calvin Mills, Karen Grayce, Beth Ann Michelle Eberle, Benjamin Pope, Owen Stuart, Zimri Karl, and Mason Cole Eberle. He was preceded in death by one son John Stuart Eberle Jr., and one grandson Macklin John Eberle. </p><p>Colonel Eberle was a distinguished military graduate of the R.O.T.C. program from Michigan State College in 1954. He was commissioned by the U.S. Army Signal Corps. and his overseas assignments included Verdon, France, Okinawa, Japan, two tours in Vietnam, and Camp Zama located near Tokyo, Japan. Colonel Eberle was awarded several medals during his career that included the Legion of Merit. In 1971 he received a Master’s Degree in Administration from American University in Washington D.C. After he retired from the military Col. Eberle worked as the operating manager for Schweber Electronics, in Westbury, NY located on Long Island. He was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America. He treasured fond events that included escorting a contingent of American scouts to the International Boy Scout Jamboree that was held in Asagiri Heights, Japan. In the late 1980’s he and his wife bought a Vixen motorhome and after 18 years of traveling they purchased their second motorhome and in total they traveled over 470,00 miles throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. </p><p>Funeral services will be private at the Eberle Farm.
