On Thursday, November 24, 2022, Rita Goodman (nee: Fitzgerald) passed away peacefully at age 86, after a brief illness.

Beloved wife to the late Marty Goodman, and a loving mother to Joanne (Paul) and Maureen (Paul). She was also a loving mother to Lynda (Murdock) and Kristen. Rita will be deeply missed by her loving grandchildren Tricia, our fallen angel Zachary, Alex, Kyle, Erin, and Andi. She was considered a grandmother to many more, Vincent, Ethan, Bevaun, and Anissa, and great-grandmother to Destiny, Demi, Dianna, and Spencer.

Rita came from a large family and is remembered with love by Addie (Amy), Arlie (Brenda), Lloyd, Kelly’s wife Peggy, and David (Ruby). She will be missed by many nieces and nephews.  Rita lovingly missed, those siblings that went before her, Ann-Marie, Helen, and Buddy (Fraser), Kelly and his first wife Audrey, Roy and Marcella (Fitzgerald), and Lloyd’s wife Lise.

Although Rita lived in Ontario with her family for a very long time, Cape Breton was in her heart. She returned home many years ago where she spent many days lunching in Ingonish, supporting local bake sales, and spending time with those she loved. When she later moved to Highland Manor she was known as the “Social Butterfly” visiting everyone she knew and those she didn’t.  She always looked forward to her Bingo games and would always say “I almost won enough for my hair cut”

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Highland Manor and Buchanan Memorial Hospital.
