Wiley Carroll Barnes Obituary

Wiley C. Barnes "Barney", 91, passed away at home November 22, 2022. This is a story about my Dad, the strongest person I knew. He was born in Haywood County, North Carolina to Frank A. Barnes and Minnie Bell Mathews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years in 2013, Ann; son in law, Jerry Steele; brother, George Barnes; sisters, Betty Barnes Matthews, and Dottie Barnes.

While serving in the US Navy and stationed in Norfolk, VA he met Anna Rose Croteau who had five children, Roger, Annette, Claudette, Mark and Linda. Soon after meeting and falling in love they got married in October 1959. Not long after they were married, I was born, baby #6. After retiring in 1968 from the US Navy my Dad continued to work as a nuclear machinist with NNSY for 25 years. After his second retirement, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, camping and traveling with my Mom.

Left to cherish his memory is, Roger Croteau (Elaine), Annette Steele, Claudette Willingham (Wade), Mark Croteau (Mary), Linda Vinson and Kim Vannoy (Bob); Andy Lezzi, Joe-B Vannoy (Jessica and their son, Landon); sisters, Patsy and Peggy; very special friend and companion, Ruth Austin; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and extended family members.

My Dad had a special bond with one of his grandsons, Joey Steele that will last forever.

A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held, November 30, 2022, at 2:00 in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Please visit www.grahamfuneralhome.com to leave a condolence to the family
