Theresa Valonis Greening

<p>Theresa Eleanor Greening, 88, of Voorhees, NJ, formerly of Scranton, passed away on November 20, 2022, at Samaritan Hospice Center of Voorhees NJ. She and her surviving husband, Norton L. Greening, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2022.</p><p><br></p><p>Born in Dickson City, PA to the late Charles and Julia (Wnuk) Valonis, Theresa graduated from Dickson City High School in 1951. She was a waitress for many years starting at the Twin Grill in Scranton, the Collegeville Inn, Collegeville, PA, and the Castle Restaurant, Scranton. Finally, getting off her feet, Theresa ended her work career as a telephone customer service representative at JC Penney, Moosic, PA. She was a long-time member of Mary Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Scranton.</p><p><br></p><p>Theresa was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was a fabulous cook and baker, known for her homemade pierogi, red velvet cake, pistachio nut cake, Welsh cookies, and many varieties of Christmas cookies. Her motto was the more food, the more love, because of all the love she put into making each dish. And it showed on the waistlines of those around her!</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to her husband Norton, surviving are her three children, Terri-Ellen Wasserstein (Alan), Voorhees, NJ, her sons, Gary R. Greening (Jackie), Bowie, MD, and Thomas A. Greening (Traci), Spring Brook Twp, PA, her six grandchildren, John N. Greening (Maggie), Media, PA, Valerie Aiken (Joe), Haddon Heights, NJ, Gary R. Greening II, (Courtney), Sharpsburg, MD, David Wasserstein, Washington, DC, Katie Lee Wasserstein, Baltimore, MD, and Ashley Greening, Spring Brook Twp, PA, her seven great-grandchildren, Edie, Francis, and Gus Greening, Media, PA, Leo, Patrick, and Johnny Mac Greening, Sharpsburg, MD, and Ava Aiken, Haddon Heights, NJ, and many nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>She is also survived by her two sisters, Dolores Padden, Olyphant, and Geraldine Nish (Peter) Scotrun, and a brother, Gerald Valonis (Ann), Dickson City.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by her two sisters, Eleanor Valonis, and Joan Wrabel, and two brothers, Charles and Joseph Valonis.</p><p><br></p><p>Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 9:30 AM in Mary Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, Scranton. Friends and family may visit 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Mary Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, online or at 316 William St, Scranton, PA 18508, or a charity of your choice.
