Obituary

Barry R. Worth, 87, of East Harwich passed away peacefully November 20th after months of battling with vascular dementia with the aid of the compassionate staff at Harbor Point memory care community in Centerville, MA. Barry joins Marilyn, his wife of 64 years in heaven who had passed away suddenly in August, 2022.

He is survived by his dedicated sons Thomas (residing in Rhode Island, wife Linda, children Kristen Beres, Ian Brown and grandchildren Violet Beres and Lucy Brown) and Ronald (residing in New York, wife Deborah and children Samantha, Rebeccah and Matthew) and daughter Loke (residing in Hawaii, husband Sam Keanaaina).

Barry was born in Flushing, NY in 1935 and grew up raising chickens on a farm in rural Montgomery, NY, where he met and married his childhood sweetheart. After graduating with an engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1958, Barry started his career-long tenure at Central Hudson Gas and Electric in Newburgh, NY. He was involved in many community organizations in the Hudson Valley including the Hudson-Delaware council of the Boy Scouts of America. In 1996, Barry and Marilyn fulfilled a lifelong dream of retiring to Cape Cod. There he made numerous friends through the Nauset Newcomers, Daytrippers, book clubs and multiple bicycling clubs.

He later served on the Town of Harwich Energy Committee helping to bring green energy sources to the town. Always active well into his 80's, Barry could often be found on the bike trails and hiking trails around the Cape all year long. He carried with him an enthusiasm for life that could light up a room by simply entering it that will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he accumulated throughout his life.
