Peter Georgakilas
<p>Panagiotis “Peter” N. Georgakilas passed away peacefully at Amita Health Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago on November 24, 2022, at the age of 85. His battle with pulmonary fibrosis in recent years showed his courage in facing life's challenges with a smile. Despite the constant ups and downs, Panagiotis came out a hero and remained strong until the end.</p><p><br></p><p>Panagiotis was born to Nicolas and Eleni Georgakilas in Agrilo, Greece, and in 1968 immigrated and settled in Chicago, Illinois.</p><p><br></p><p>Panagiotis lived his long and full life as a wonderful brother, father, grandfather, and master gardener. His days were spent cultivating his garden and sharing his harvest with his family. Panagiotis was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in his life. Upon retiring from Mary Ann Baking Company, Panagiotis adopted a quieter life, spending time with his grandchildren and enjoying the outdoors.</p><p><br></p><p>Panagiotis was preceded in death by his loving siblings Maria Barounis, George, and John Georgakilas. He is survived by his two sisters; Antigoni Moutsoulos and Evyenia Koromila (and husband George); his two children; Helen Trage (and husband Ed) of Grayslake; Nick Georgakilas (and wife Kelly) of Chicago. Panagiotis is also survived by three grandchildren Natalie Perez-Georgakilas (and husband Jose) of Algonquin; as well as Elena and Peter Trage. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren Jayden, Noah, and Jonathan Perez-Georgakilas. He leaves behind many devoted nieces, nephews, and other family. Panagiotis lived a full life, a true family patriarch, and an example for all of us to follow. He left behind countless memories, which his family will forever treasure. May our Lord rest him in eternal peace.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral services for Panagiotis will take place on Monday, November 28, 2022, at Transfiguration of Our Savior Chapel at Elmwood Cemetary (2905 N Thatcher Rd. River Grove, IL 60171). Visitation from 10:00 am-11:00 am, funeral service to begin at 11:00 am.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, memorials in Panagiotis' name can be made to the HealthWell Foundation which helps the underinsured afford critical medical treatments.</p>November 24, 202211/24/2022
