William E. Horwedel Obituary

Princetown - William “Bill” E. Horwedel, 61, passed away suddenly on November 21, 2022. He was a caring son, father, brother, and papa.

Bill was born to Ronald and Helen Horwedel on September 21, 1961 in Syracuse, NY. He is survived by his mother, Helen Horwedel, as well as his brothers James (Bonita), Gary (Sue), Paul (Robin) and Randy (Traci) Horwedel. He was predeceased by his father, Ronald, in 2005, as well as Uncle David Horwedel, Aunt Ann Esperti and Aunt Bernice Parillo. He has a large, loud, and loving family including aunts, Rita (Ken) LaBelle, Pauline (George) Kowalczyk and Sarah Horwedel, uncles, many cousins, nieces, and nephews and will be greatly missed by all.

After graduating from Schalmont high school, Bill obtained his Associate's degree from Hudson Valley Community College. From there, he lived in many places before settling in Schenectady, NY where he became a successful businessman as a framing subcontractor. He was a skilled tradesman and devoted his life to perfecting the trade while teaching it to others, including his sons. He was the proud owner of W.M. Horwedel Framing Contractors.

When he wasn’t working, Bill enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening, and golfing.

Bill welcomed two stepchildren into his life, Jamie Powers and Nicholas Stangle before having triplet boys, Christopher (Ashlyn), Jesse (Caitlyn) and Mark (Tiffany) Horwedel. He was a beacon of light to all 5 of his children.

He contributed so much to those around him but his greatest joy, above all, was being a papa to his grandchildren. He loved to spend summers at his camp on Lake Luzerne fishing, swimming and hiking with his grandsons Calan and Greyson. His granddaughter, Chloe, has her Papa’s bright, blue eyes. He couldn’t wait to teach his grandson, Jayden, to fish. Bill was excited to add the newest grandchildren, Stephen and Caelie, to the mix when they were born this year, six weeks apart. His love for all of his grandchildren was unsurmountable.

Bill’s life and legacy will be honored at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam on Saturday, December 3rd. Calling hours will be from 10am-2pm. A prayer service will be held at 2:00 pm following the calling hours.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Spina Bifida Association of New York.
