June Florence Hett Obituary

June Florence Hett

February 21, 1929 - November 23, 2022

Our family announces the peaceful passing of June on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at

The Westmount LTC in Kitchener, where she resided for the last 8 1/2 years. She was in her 94th year. Even in our sadness at this great loss, we are so grateful for her long and healthy life in spite of the dementia that took pieces of her away from us these last few years. She leaves us all with an abundance of memories that we will keep in our hearts forever.

She was the loving mother of Dave and his wife Sue (Martin) of Kitchener and Jennie and her husband Eric Sprague of New Hamburg. She will be missed greatly by her grandchildren - Lindsay Sprague and her husband Brian Cullen and Fraser Sprague and his wife Eileen (Berwick). Her great-grandchildren brought her much joy and always a smile to her face - Rhys, Wesley and Fiadh June Cullen and Ryder and Finley Sprague will miss their special “Gee Gee”.

Also remembered by Ronnie and Ki Dubois and their children Max and Violet.

June is predeceased by her husband Laverne (2008) with whom she shared almost 59 years of marriage. She was a devoted caregiver to him for several years before his passing. She is also predeceased by her parents Edna and Albert Besserer and her only sibling, her brother Roy.

June was a school teacher for a short time then after her marriage, devoted her time and energy to being a compassionate & supportive wife and mother. She took art lessons later on in her life and became an excellent oil painter. She loved to play piano and also learned to play the organ. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for 60 years and there she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She loved to play cards, especially cribbage, and get together with her friends at Coffee Club where they did more laughing than anything else! Gardening and “putzing” around outside brought her great satisfaction and she was proud of her flower and vegetable gardens. But it didn’t matter what she was doing, when we needed her, she was always there with a listening ear and a big hug!

Mom had a soft spot in her heart for all animals, especially “Dexter”, the three-legged dog who spent lots of time with her, visiting and snuggling on her bed.

A big “thank you” to all the staff at The Westmount that cared for our Mom with so much compassion and tenderness. To the nurses and PSWs - we will never forget that you were “family” to Mom when we were not there - you made her laugh, took her to music & singing activities and spent countless hours just making sure she had what she needed every day.

Also thanks to Dr. Carothers, who was Mom’s doctor at The Westmount and kept a close eye on her for all these years.
