Coal Township -- Michael A. Long, Sr., 71, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022, at is home while surrounded by his loving family. He had lived at the home for the past 46 years. He was born in Shamokin on June 17, 1951, a son of Carol Meisberger, of Shamokin, and the late Michael Salvadore.


Mike was a graduate of Shamokin High School.


He was married to the former Kathleen Lynn Brown, who survives.


Mike was the Regional Supervisor for Butter Krust Baking Co. (Holsum) in Sunbury for 40 years before retiring in 2013.


He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also actively involved in numerous organizations and activities including as a PIAA Official for 33 years; the Anthracite Miners Junior Baseball League (AMJBL) as a founding board of directors' member and coach for many years; West Catholic CYO basketball Boosters and as a coach; a long-time Assistant Athletic Director at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School; the Little Red Raiders Football as a coach; and as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cardinal Mindszenty 4th Degree.


Mike is survived by his loving family including his wife Kathy; two sons, Michael A. Long, Jr. and his wife Jessica, of Tampa, Florida, and Peter J. Long and his wife Kelly, of Coal Township; a daughter, Jennifer L. Carpentier and her husband Brian, of Coal Township; Mother, Carol Meisberger, of Shamokin; two sisters, Mary Carol McAnnaney, of Frackville, and Debbie Kashnoski, of Coal Township; four grandsons, Zachary Long and Gabriel Long, both of Tampa, Florida, and Peter J. Long, Jr. and Nathaniel T. Long, both of Coal Township; two granddaughters, Gabriella Rumberger and her husband Michael and Abigail Carpentier, all of Coal Township; great granddaughter, Emma R. Rumberger, of Coal Township; great grandson, Drew Rumberger, of Coal Township; sister-in-law and spouse, Deborah and Dr. Jim Bower, of Elizabethville; brother-in-law and spouse, Jeffrey and Ardel Brown, of Lansdale; brother-in-law and spouse, Marty and Lydia Brown of Selinsgrove; brother-in-law and spouse, Michael and Shawn Marie Brown, of Schwenkville; cousin, Joe Yermalovich, husband of the late Ann Yermalovich, of Watertown, Connecticut; and nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his Father, Michael Salvadore; stepfather, John Meisberger; and his beloved father and mother-in-law, Pete and Betty Brown.


A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 West Arch Street at Maple Street, Coal Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Church. Burial of his cremains will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Coal Township. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Hope Church, 863 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township, 17866.
