Michael Earl "Pappy" Knopp Obituary

Tharptown -- Michael Earl "Pappy" Knopp, 73, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born in Coal Township on December 1, 1948, a son of the late Earl "Luke" and Dorothy (Jennings) Knopp.


Mike was a 1967 graduate of Shamokin High School.


He was married on February 13, 1988, at the Office of District Magistrate Wilbur R. Reddinger, Shamokin, to Linda Lee (Musser) Knopp. Linda passed away on January 16, 2013.


Pappy worked as a bookkeeper for George B. Keiser Plumbing Co., Shamokin, for 20 years; Northumberland County for 10 years; and for Knoebels Amusement Park for 30 years. During his 30 years at Knoebels, Pappy was a mentor and friend to co-workers of all ages. He especially took great pride in daily preparing the red candy apples and homemade Carmel corn.


He was of the Protestant Faith.


Mike was a life member of the Independence Fire Co., Shamokin. He had played in the local Slo-Pitch Softball League. For many years, Pappy was actively involved in local youth sports as a coach in the Shamokin Youth Basketball League (SYBL), the A.Y.S.O., the Anthracite Miners Junior Baseball League (AMJBL), and Shamokin-Coal Township Little League.


Most recently, Pappy could be seen at his great grandchildren's educational activities and sporting events. If not attending those, he was cheering on his Penn State Nittany Lions, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Yankees.


He is survived by his two loving and adoring daughters, Tammy L. (Strunk) Taylor and husband Edward R. Taylor, Sr., of Sunbury, and Kristie J. Strunk-Bogush and husband Michael K. Bogush, of Paxinos; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Taylor) Neary and husband John, Edward R. Taylor II, and Robert J. Taylor; four great grandchildren, Lily Anne Neary, and twins, Sam Vincent and Dean Robert Neary, and Ruby Lee Neary; a brother, Chauncey Knopp, and wife Cindy, of Middletown; a niece and nephew; and his dog, Finlee.


Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
