Jim Obituary

DAVIS - James (Jim) Davis was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan on July 12, 1958 to James and Dorothea (nee Fookes) Davis. He passed away peacefully on November 15, 2022 at his home when he succumbed to brain/lung cancer. Jim was well liked by his friends and adored by his family. He had a big heart filled with kindness and generosity, a smile that lit up the room, a strong amazing spirit and he always had time for a conversation with anyone he knew or better yet, a coffee. Like all experiences he dealt with in life, Jim managed his illness with strength and grace. He spent his time with loved ones and made the most of each day. On his final day, he passed early in the morning surrounded by his caregivers – his daughters, their mother, and his sisters. A group he fondly referred to as his “dream team”. Jim grew up in Bredenbury and he graduated from Yorkton Regional High School in 1976. He started his career that fall at Mosaic (formerly IMC Potash) as a pin puller. He grew into a few roles over the years and he retired as Shaft Superintendent at K1 & K2 in 2013. Jim was married twice in his life. He married his high school sweetheart, Helene Schroeder in 1977 and they were blessed with two daughters, Trish, and Jennifer. Jim and Helene remained friends over the years enjoying moments and memories with 2 grandchildren, Tatum and Jada and 3 great-grandchildren Charlie, Kenny and Ethan. He remarried in 2004 to Marcella Chillog and was a mentor and friend to her 3 children, Carter, Jordan, and Lyndsay and they also enjoyed moments and memories with 3 grandchildren Makenna, Emeryk and Rykker. Jim and Marcella also remained friends. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren “lit up” his world. Jim loved his sports and quite often he would be found “tinkering”, building something, or watching the Montreal Canadiens. He was involved in hockey, baseball, bowling, golfing and fishing over the years. After retirement the only sport that mattered was fishing, which was done on his pontoon boat. He also loved being at his shop building and creating. He started following his dream of wood working after retirement with his Uncle, Kenny Fookes who taught him so much. In 2017 he set up his own shop and what started as a “hobby” turned into his dream. Jim and his daughter Trish together, built and installed many custom kitchens, bathrooms, and miscellaneous requests. He referred to his shop many times as his “Happy Place”. Jim is predeceased by his mother, Dorothea. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Trish, and Jennifer and her daughters, Tatum (Steven) Coleman with great-grandchildren, Charlie, Kenny, and Ethan; granddaughter, Jada (Rhies) Ottenbreit; his father, James Davis; his sisters, Margaret (Al) Amos, Kathryn (Bob) Brunskill; his brother, Hugh (Carla) Davis; and by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends. He also leaves his fur baby grandchildren Diesel, Roxy, and Shadow who were constantly by his side. A memorial service was held on Saturday November 26, 2022, from Holy Trinity Anglican Church with Reverend Kim Sherwin serving as the Celebrant with Karen Delong leading the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “Amazing Grace”, and “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”. A special musical tribute, “Bridge Over Troubled Water” was sung by Tatum Coleman with special readings by Jessica Brunskill and Hugh Davis. Jim’s daughter, Tricia gave a heartfelt eulogy in tribute to her father. The interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Bredenbury Town Cemetery.
