SUNSET ~ Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Grand Coteau for Joseph “Joey” Thibodeaux, age 40, who passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Jackson South Medical Center in Miami, Florida.

Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery. Rev. Mark Kramer, S.J. will officiate the services.

Joey was a native of Sunset and a resident of Miami, Florida. He was a son, brother, uncle, friend, nephew, grandson, had talent like no other, and he was loved. Joey never shied away or hid his struggles and his demons. He owned them, faced them, and put their rawness out there for the world to know his pains so they could celebrate his triumphs; he knew others struggled with the same demons, maybe not so publicly, and he wanted them to know they were not alone. He was real. He lived, laughed, loved, cried and would break and then do his best to put himself back together again.

He never stopped striving to be the best in his art and tattooing and man the stuff he could create was mind blowing. Ever since he could hold a pencil, he has been amazingly talented. He did not need fancy supplies; a piece of paper and a pencil or pen. The world and people became his canvas.

He had a heart and compassion for others especially children and those down on their luck. He knew the struggles and he saw them for the beautiful souls they were.

It seems he never could escape his own self-imposed sense of self-doubt, not good enough and it caused him to often overlook his ability, talent, and achievements. One’s mind can be a source of great struggle.

Joey was perfectly imperfect; he was talented. He was strong and overcame struggles, hardships, and demons with strength and determination. He was loved more than he could ever understand. He was a child of God. He was enough and always has been. He was chosen. He was our son, our brother, our uncle, our friend and he is missed. He is finding his rest in God’s perfect peace.

Survivors include his parents, Walburn “Tiny” Thibodeaux and Shirley Savoie Thibodeaux; his brother, Don Thibodeaux (Michelle); his sister, Crystal Compos (Vince); two nieces, Gracie Thibodeaux, and Monique Touchet; two nephews, Danah Thibodeaux, and Vincent Compos, Jr.; a great niece, Rilee Jean; and two special friends, Sasha Nicole, and Noel Whaling.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elvin and Gertie Thibodeaux, and Anna Savoie; and his nephew, Dayne Thibodeaux.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 12:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday.

Melancon Funeral Home, (337) 896-3232, is in charge of arrangements.

December 23, 1981 - November 17, 202212/23/198111/17/2022
