George Vanderhorst

<p>George Vanderhorst went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the age of 89 years after a short, courageous battle with cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Teresa; daughters, Desiree Howlett, Melissa (Rory) Schaeffer, Juanita Vanderhorst, Monica (Chris) Miller; Teresa's children, Angie (Albert) Cramer, Perry† (Jennifer) Wagenaar, Rick (Kate) Wagenaar, Mandy (Ralph) Van Dam; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; Wanita Wagenaar; and loyal friend, Ron Bohrn. George was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Arie and Wim; family members, Darcy Howlett, Karen Wagenaar, and Perry Wagenaar. George was born on April 1, 1933 in Hilverson, The Netherlands and was the youngest of three brothers. He received his schooling and accountant education in the The Netherlands. In 1956, at the age of 23 years, he immigrated to Canada and settled in Hamilton, Ontario, near his brother, Arie. George and his family moved west to Calgary in 1969. In 1975, they moved to Medicine Hat where George was accountant supervisor at Canadian Fertilizers until his retirement in 1998. In August 1982, he married Teresa and they enjoyed 40 years together. They spent many summers travelling coast to coast in Canada and through parts of the USA, including Alaska. George was a lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church. He loved the church and served on various committees over the years, including treasurer during his years spent in Hamilton. He was also the volunteer treasurer of the condo association for many years. George liked playing cards with friends, puzzling, and doing wonderword puzzles. He enjoyed lively conversations about current world events, politics, and sports. He will be forever missed and was deeply loved. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Christian Reformed Church, 300 Primrose Drive SE with Pastor George Koopmans officiating. Family and friends are also welcome to participate via livestream by logging onto www.medicinehaterc.org . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Medicine Hat Christian School, thank you.
