Obituary

Othell Floyd was born on December 7th 1941 to Josh and Mary Floyd in Memphis, Tennessee. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at UTMC in Toledo, Ohio. Othell attended Gunckle Elementary and was a proud Graduate of Libbey High School (Cowboys). Othell enjoyed watching the Animal Channel, fishing, working on cars, cooking, and baking. Just in case you didn’t know, Othell was the master on the grill and enjoyed sharing grilling pointers with his children. But most of all, he LOVED hanging out with his only brother Willie Floyd AKA Jr.

As a young man, Othell worked at Inmont Chemicals Corporation. Upon leaving Inmont, he worked at Prospect Red and White Super Market as a butcher. While working as a butcher, Othell met and married the love of his life, Kathleen Garrett. As his family began to grow, he decided to take a job at the University of Toledo. He also worked for Medusa Cement Company, where he was known as Big O. Othell worked there until they closed in 1982. Finally, he worked as a groundskeeper at Forest Cemetery until health issues forced him to retire. Who would have thought the last placed he worked to serve the community would be his final earthly resting place.

Othell accepted Christ as a young lad and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Toledo, OH under the leadership of Pastor Elijah Benton. In 2002 Othell joined Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Clifford L. Mayes. He served faithfully on the usher, security, and custodial ministries until his health began to decline. Although he was unable to attend service regularly and fellowship with the saints, Macedonia was forever on his heart.

Othell was preceded in death by both of his parents, Josh and Mary Floyd; oldest son, Othell Bruce Floyd.

He leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy; his loving wife of 49 years, Katheen Floyd; sons, Terry Floyd, Carl Floyd, John Garrett, Camoney Garrett, and Little Terry Floyd, all of Toledo; daughters, Twiana Floyd and Tamika Floyd of Toledo; 28 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and awaiting the arrival of 3 more; brother and best friend, Willie Floyd of Toledo; god daughters, Michelle Mayes of Louisville, KY and Marquisa Cox of Toledo, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and a loving church family.
