Ricardo “Richard” Contreras, 66, entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at his home in Edinburg.  He was born March 23, 1956 in McAllen, Texas to Arturo and Josefina Sepulveda Contreras.  He is preceded in death by his parents and niece, Julia De La Fuente.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter; Darlena (Eduardo) Cantu, son Richard Contreras, brothers Arturo Contreras, Javier (Roxanna) Contreras, Roel (Cynthia) Contreras, Efrain Contreras, sisters Debra De La Fuente, Linda Contreras, and loving grandchildren Eduardo H. Cantu III and Madeleine Dani Cantu, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Richard was an admired father, extremely loved son, brother, uncle, grandfather and generous friend to all. 

Richard loved his Faith in God and family. Richard’s hobbies were fishing and sports cars.  Richard was an avid fan of the Astros, Spurs and Cowboys. He was a devoted Cowboy fan and never fell off the bandwagon, despite numerous losing streaks throughout the years.  He worked as the general manager and part owner of the family-owned auto parts business, Edinburg Auto Supply, for many years.  He was branching out on his own but was forced to give up the career he loved due to an abrupt health issue.  Richard, even when ill, was always there to help family and friends as much as he could.  Physical disabilities never defined his life. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

The family will receive friends from 3:00pm-9:00pm, Monday November 28th, 2022, with memorial services starting at 6:30pm - 7:30pm at Vaughn Funeral Home, 812 E. Cano St. Edinburg, TX.

Church services for Richard Contreras will be held at 9:30am - 10:30am, Tuesday November 29th, 2022, at  El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church, 705 E. University Dr, Edinburg, TX.

Burial services for Richard Contreras will be held at 11:00am - 12:00pm, Tuesday November 29th, 2022, at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3601-3611 N Taylor Rd, Mission, TX 78573.
